Jazz and Lyrical technique classes
Our students are taught correct jazz technique which will prepare them for Jazz competitions or tryouts for High School Dance company or Drill teams.
Each class will focus on learning turns, leaps, stretching and choreography. We do not spend the entire class working on one competition dance.
Welcome to the Utah Artists School of Ballet , the official school of the Utah Artists Junior Ballet Company. Our excellent curriculum, taught by the eminent faculty emphasize the highest quality of traditional classical ballet training, jazz classes and tap classes. Our philosophy is to teach children to love dance while developing correct ballet technique, jazz dance technique and tap technique with proper body alignment and body placement.
Our students have the opportunity to perform twice a year in a classical ballet. We perform the Childrens Nutcracker Ballet choreographed by Barbara Nesi Olsen, in December and a story ballet in the spring. Our Nutcracker is the only Nutcracker to have children as young as 3 years old performing. Our dancers have the opportunity to be soloists in our ballet company. Our students do not audition for the Nutcracker. Each class has designated parts.
Our Spring ballets have included: The ballet Coppelia (choreography by Barbara Nesi Olsen) The Sleeping Beauty Ballet, The Cinderella Ballet and Paquita from the original choreography by Marius Petitpa. Learning the original choreography from Marius Petitpa, a famous choreographer in ballet history, helps prepare our students to audition for companies all over the world. We have also performed: The Beauty & The Beast Ballet, Alice In Wonderland and Snow White Ballets.
Our ballet classes are divided into graded ballet levels which follow a structured sequence of training that will increase their technical skills and discipline in regards to their age and physical development. Students must audition for placement.
Our jazz program is outstanding. Students that wish to compete in Dance competitions will be excited to know we take first place.
Our pre-ballet and tap classes for children 3 years to 8 years offer a fun environment. Music is instrumental in teaching them to dance. In pre-ballet students dance with wands, umbrellas, tambourines, canes and wear tiaras. They began learning correct ballet terms in French. Their classes are a foundation to prepare them for our ballet classes. We use graded levels of tap technique which include a tap barre and center choreography.

The Annual Childrens Nutcracker Ballet
Every dancer dreams of dancing in the Nutcracker Ballet. At Utah Artists School of Ballet it is a reality.
Dancers do not audition, everyone is in the Nutcracker. Our dancers know that they will have an opportunity to dance solos when they are in Company Class.
Utah Artists School of Ballet has been performing the full length Nutcracker for 24 years. We have our own beautiful costume wardrobe. The scenery comes from Georgia and Maryland.
A male guest artist is hired to dance the main roles of the Nutcracker Prince, Cavalier and Arabian Prince. Utah Artists Dancers have opportunities to dance a pas de deux. ( dance with male partner)
The entire Nutcracker Ballet was choreographed and staged by Barbara Nesi Olsen. The choreography is beautiful, entertaining and challenging.
The youngest children are the mice and cookies. The mice always steal the show. They arevery unpredictable. Dolls, Angels, Taffy, Peppermint sticks, and Gingerells are the dances for pre-ballet. All first graders look forward to being a Gingerell and dancing under Mother Gingers huge skirt.
The Childrens Nutcracker Ballet is performed at the beautiful Juan Diego Catholic High School as a fundraiser for JDCHS.
