Good Character doesnt just happen in a person. It must be modeled, taught, and guided. Children need good examples of life being lived with integrity, according to strong values. They need those who care enough to take the more difficult, inconvenient path of correction tempered with sincere kindness.
A walk through the halls of any of our schools shows an environment filled with respect for oneself and for others, where the children are able to relax and apply themselves without distraction to the tasks at hand; growing and learning.
Parental involvement is very high at Saint Joseph Catholic Schools. As one parent put it after having his child in the school for 2 years, When you go out and tell people about the school, I want you to tell them how family oriented this school community is. That was huge to us you are part of a family.
Student involvement in special activities that are designed to foster friendship, empathy, teamwork and leadership are important within the school community, also. We care about each other, and that means we live actively, not passively, in the sense of that ideal.
Not only is the Saint Joseph community of families close, we reach out to our outer community seeking to make a difference where we can. Rare is the time when something isnt happening on at least one of our campuses to support those in need.
Middle school students are recognized for their community service efforts each quarter, and high school students, while having a requirement of community service each year, most often exceed those hours due to the sincere desire to make a difference in this world and make service a way of life.
Our teachers care very much about their students success. They take the time to help each child succeed by offering extra study time, support and mentoring. Parents often comment how far ahead their children are compared to friends at other schools.
By middle school, our students score 40% or higher than the Utah state average on standardized tests. By high school these students help our school score in the top 5% of the nation on the nationally recognized, AP Challenge Index.
Our 49 students in the graduating Class of 2009 achieved a 100% graduation rate with a 98% college acceptance rate, and received over $2.4 million in total college scholarships while serving the community with over 6,390 hours of their time.
Catholic faith and values is dear to the heart of Saint Joseph Catholic Schools. From daily religion & theology classes, Mass & prayer services, to acknowledging God in all subjects and in all persons, students discover the beauty of our created world and their places within it.
The spirit of inclusion, a strong aspect of Catholic doctrine that we are all children of God and therefore are all one human family regardless of race, religion, economic status or any other issue that sometimes divides us, is appreciated not only by the 24% of our students that are not Catholic, but also by all of our students as it serves to strengthen their foundation of their worth as a person; something they will need to draw upon throughout all of their lives.
Whether your student finds academics easy or hard, invigorating or frustrating, she will be challenged and encouraged to reach her full personal potential and not just in academics, but also spiritually, emotionally and physically.
Being a smaller school system, our teachers know the students by name, even those who are not in their own classes. Believing in the students, expecting the best of their abilities and holding them to those efforts is a notable strength of our faculty and staff and something that students often reminisce about several years after graduation.
Saint Joseph Catholic Schools have been educating children along the Northern Wasatch Front since 1877. In 1954 a separate high school was built to serve the growing community. We are proud to be the oldest and strongest parochial school in Utah, north of Salt Lake City.
Established by the Sisters of the Holy Cross and the Jesuit Fathers, Saint Joseph Catholic Schools continue the commitment of excellence in education for all students who wish to benefit from it by offering proven curriculum, activities and programs that are still well thought out and purposeful in order to meet the needs of our students in this ever-changing world.
Being smaller has its advantages. Our athletic teams are no-cut, yet we often go on to win regional and many state tournaments. Almost every student trying out for a play ends up with a part and/or role of support, and then they go on stage and blow the audience away with their talent and spirit. In 2009 our high school won first in the statewide Shakespearean Festival competition.
What is this small in numbers, big in spirit attitude that radiates from the hearts of our students? Its the fact that they know we believe in them, offering them opportunities to grow & gain experiences in all areas of their lives, while walking alongside them to celebrate their successes and support them through challenges.
