ArchiCAD, their flagship product, defined BIM.

AIA, Tucson Chapter hosted, BIM, The Bottom Line September 17th in Tucson. Monte Chapin, ArchiCAD evangelist from Graphisoft postulated on the advantages of BIM during "BIM, The Bottom Line", conference sponsored by the AIA in Arizona. Monte educated AIA members on the IFC file format that allows BIM program files to move easily from one application to another. He also spoke on the advantages of the BIM Server by Graphisoft that allows anyone with an internet connection to collaborate on a project.
Firms See ArchiCAD as technically superior.
One local architectural firm, who attended the conference, was recently trying out the BIM Server with collaborating firms they will be using on a proposed new project. The firm has decided to go with ArchiCAD because they see it as technically superior to other products in the market and especially value Bim Server. Many firms in Arizona have downsized and eleminated all but essential departments and personnel. The BIM Server allows these companies to continue to offer those eleminated services through collaborating via ArchiCAD's BIM Server.

Oops! Wished I had done it in ArchiCAD. We had a customer who had a finished project done with BIM X (not ArchiCAD) that was ready to be stamped when the customer decided to change the height of the first floor in a multi-story building to save money. BIMX does not have an easy way to change one of the floors and have the others follow. So they went from just ready for a stamp to almost starting over. This delayed the project and was very frustrating for everyone. If the project had been done in ArchiCAD the customer would have just needed to change the height of the floor, print and resubmit. ArchiCAD is technically superior and easier to work with.
