What We Do
Custom Japanese Calligraphy is the only business in the United States that creates custom scrolls for artwork and Shodou (calligraphy) from start to finish. We do the entire process in-house and do not outsourcetextile framing to China or Japan to provide a custom made kakejiku.(Click to go to a Blog on Wall Scrolls)
KAKEJIKU, HYOUGU and KAKEMONOare some ofthe terms in Japanese to indicate a hanging wall scroll. These came into fashion about 800 A.D. as individuals wanted their calligraphy or sumie works to be dressed in a kimono. CJC does not make our Japanese style scrolls on low quality paper or cloth. Only the best hanshi and silk materials imported direct from Japan are selected to make each scroll customized and unique. We can not only frame Calligraphy or Sumie Works, but can also do photographs and art prints in this format as well.
How the Scroll is Made
The scrolls are hand made and only natural, environmentally friendly Shoufu nori (glues) are used. Synthetic or chemically manufactured nori (glues) do not maintain the integrity of the scroll. We expect you will have this scroll for hundreds of years to be an heirloom of your legacy.
How to Customize
Additionally, what other site can offer you a chance to choose from a variety of Cloth/Silk Color Backgrounds,Jikusaki (Scroll Dowel End Caps) and an assortment of Fuchin (Decorative Ceramic Hanging Tassels) to provide that something extra.
Our Quality Pledge
Other businesses put disclaimers about defects of the kakejiku and provide only vague explanations of who wrote the calligraphy. This will never happen with a hand-made kakejiku made by Custom Japanese Calligraphy. You get a certificate stamped with the hanko (official seal) of both the calligrapher and the hyousoushi (the general term for one who makes kakejiku and works in other arts pertaining to hyousou) to prove it is an original kakejiku work.
Pictures throughout the Entire Process
After the kanji translation into English and before we start to attach the Urauchi, Pictures will be sent for you to ensure you are satisfied with the work. This guarantees that this is an original piece and not a cheaply reproduced copy. Pictures are sent during the process to allowcustomers to see the progress of the completed scroll. No other company offers that type of service.
No Risk Opportunity
The quality of our scrolls is never in doubt, and a refund is always available prior to shipment if you are not satisfied with the end product.
Over 40 years of experience gives you the peace of mind that you will get and receive only the highest quality custom kakejiku.

These three 7 foot scrolls were made specifically for a dojo in Florida. They are a beautiful complement to the spiritual mission of the dojo to provide a meditative and contemplative environment for the martial artist to think and recite theprayers and blessings after training.
